Airport City, Düsseldorf Genius Loci Arriving requires a destination. Mobility is the specific feature of this site. Thus the dynamic design language of the traffic buildings generates the conceptual element of the exterior space. The organically curved development system comprises and integrates, much like a ball of wool, the opposites of culture and nature, while the vegetation specifies the dynamic figure of this structural principle and is defined as a complementary spatial structure. The compact and dense urban-planning design demands simple typologies suitable for exterior spaces: a promenade, square, garden and courtyard – basic patterns to develop this area. Owing to a more precise rendering and clarification of the spaces and the formulation of transitional areas, the site as a whole is, in the long run, imbued with an identity derived from both the natural and the architectural development.
